About us

An intensive training course for students and professionals, with an emphasis on vocal training and auditioning skills. The course combines individual vocal instruction, Alexander technique, dramatic coaching, master classes, audition training and a mock audition, and an opportunity to perform in the final concert. Participants will work with internationally acclaimed professionals in private and group settings. Joining us this year will be: a wonderful experience that results in a list of interesting contacts. History

In 2013, Stephanie Friede and Ann Engels took the initiative to invite internationally renowned teachers to participate in an intensive course for singers with an emphasis on vocal training, acting, and body work.

2017 : This is our 5th season, and we are now attracting students from all over the world!

Vzw Fabuleux

The SSCB is an initiative of the non-profit organization Fabuleux.
This organization has the following objectives:

  • To promote the development and continuation of excellence in the vocal arts.
  • Create an opportunity for young Belgian singers to work with the very best teachers as they learn to combine the necessary skills needed to become serious professionals.

Abbie Furmansky

Abbie Furmansky

The American soprano Abbie Furmansky, came to prominence in Europe as an ensemble member at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she quickly established herself in the lyric soprano repertoire.

Admired for her spirited stage presence and the luxurious timbre of her voice; she has worked with leading conductors and has appeared throughout Europe and the United States with great orchestras.

Thomas Allen

Thomas Allen

Thomas Michael Allen was born in Chicago and started his music studies as pianist. He later on studied for a master degree in Voice at the Manhattan Scholl of Music in New York.

Allen sang in different operas in Paris, Brussels, Tokyo, Lyone, Athenes, New York, Washington, Zurich and Dresden. Recently he recorded his own CD.

Gary Jankowski

Gary Jankowski

Gary Jankowski's performances are characterized by great musical sensitivity, a strong, clear, mellifluous voice, and an imposing presence that he brings to a growing number of international stages, concert halls, and radio broadcasts.
After studying at Indiana University and learning his craft in the regional theaters of the USA (for example as Sarastro, Osmin, and Il Commendatore), Seattle-born Gary Jankowski moved to Germany in the mid-1990s.

Stéphanie Friede

Stéphanie Friede

Stephanie Friede, one of the most in demand international Sopranos, was born in New York City and is a graduate of Julliard and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
Important appearances during the last years include: "Minnie" in Puccini’s LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST, e.g. at the New National Theatre, Tokyo, the New York City Opera, at the Vlaamse Opera, Antwerpen.
Stephanie Friede has appeared regularly at the Zurich Opera e.g.as "Minneleide" in Pfitzner’s ROSE VOM LIEBESGARTEN, in the title role of Strauss’ SALOME.

Ann Rodiger

She has been teaching the Alexander Technique and movement for over 30 years in academic and private settings. Her extensive experience working with singers and singing teachers includes being on faculty at Perleberg, Germany's Lotte Lehmann Academy for Singers.

She is currently serving on the board of the American Society for the Alexander Technique.

Walewein Witten

Piano, harpsichord, singing coach. Walewein Witten does it all. For years he was working for different operas, he also plays chamber music. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Ten Hague in the Netherlands. For more than 17 years he is working with singers. His love for singing and the opera lead him to become singing coach. He worked with different singers and the last years he was singing coach for different opera productions.

Program

We are offering a full course (group A) and a smaller version (group B). The A-group is intended for singing students and aspiring professionals. Group B is intended for talented amateurs.

Group A

  • A daily warm-up with Ann Rodiger
  • Daily private singing lessons
  • Daily masterclasses
  • Workshops opera scenes, stage-performance and stage-movement
  • A mock audition where you present yourself before the entire teaching staff
  • A final concert
  • Two performances of opera scenes

Group B

  • A daily warm-up with Ann Rodiger
  • 4 individual singing lessons spread over the week
  • 3 masterclasses
  • Workshops on stage performance - stage movement / confidence
  • A final concert
  • The possibility to observe all the masterclasses of group A

16 h - Meet and greet. Participants in the full course will be required to sing an aria or an art song of their choice. The singers in the small course are also welcome to sing, although it is not a requirement.

Tuesday 8.08.2017 18 h - mock audition. This is for participants of the full course. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to present yourself as you would in an audition, and to get valuable constructive feedback afterwards. Please come dressed as you would for an audition. The complete teacher staff will be the jury. 20 h - Annual dinner offered to the A-group

Daily Schedule

Time Activity
10:00 – 11:00 h Every day will begin with a warm up with Ann Rodiger. Both groups are expected to attend. Wear comfortable clothing.
11:15 – 13:30 h Private lessons and group classes.
13:30 – 14:45 h Break
14:45 – 18:30 h Private lessons and group classes.
18:30 – 19:30 h Break
19:30 – 22:00 h Master classes.

  1. Masterclasses are open to the public at a cost of 10 euro a day.
  2. You will find a detailed programming of the lessons ad valvas at the start of the course.
